Creating Orders

Create a new order to start work on a property.

Starting a New Order

  1. From the Orders dashboard, click New Order
  2. The Create New Order dialog opens on a document drop zone

Quick Start: Upload a Document

The fastest way to create an order is to drop an initiating document on the zone the dialog opens with — a contract, order form, or order summary from your title production system. Platted recognizes:

  • Purchase Contract - Contract with buyer, seller, and property details
  • Title Request - Request form with order details
  • Listing Agreement
  • Earnest Money Receipt
  • Contract Amendment
  • Prior commitment or policy - Supplies the prior commitment date

Platted extracts the information and pre-fills the order form automatically. You can review and adjust the extracted data before creating the order.

To use this method:

  1. Drop a PDF on the zone, or click it to pick a file (PDF only)
  2. Wait for extraction to complete
  3. Review the pre-filled fields and make any corrections
  4. Click Create Order

Manual Entry

If you don't have a document to upload, click I'll enter the order details manually to open the empty form.

The form is organized into three cards: Order Information, Party Information, and Property Information.

Order Information

Order Number

Enter the order number from your Title Production System (TPS). This keeps Platted synchronized with your existing workflow. The system will warn you if the number already exists. Required.

Assign to Examiner

Optionally assign the order to a specific examiner. The dropdown lists only users with the Examiner or Lead Examiner role, plus an Unassigned option. See Assigning Examiners.

Prior commitment or policy?

Choose Yes or No prior commitment. Choosing Yes reveals a date field — Prior commitment/policy date — which scopes how far back the title plant search runs.

Party Information

Buyers (Proposed Insured)

Add one or more buyers:

  1. Click Add Buyer
  2. Enter First Name and Last Name / Entity

Last Name / Entity is required. For a company, trust, or estate, put the full name in that field and leave First Name empty.

Sellers (Current Owner)

Click Add Seller and enter names the same way as buyers.

Property Information

Address and County

Enter Street Address, City, State, and ZIP Code, and select the County where the property is located. The county determines:

  • Which documents are available in the title plant
  • The CAD (County Appraisal District) link

Selecting a county fills in the state automatically.

Legal Description

Choose a Legal Description Type, then fill in the fields it reveals:

  • Subdivision (Block/Lot) - Subdivision Name (required), Block, and Lot (required)
  • Abstract (Survey) - Abstract Number (required) and Survey (required)

Completing Order Creation

Click Create Order to save the order. Reset Form clears what you've entered and returns to the drop zone.

Once the order is created you'll be taken to the Order Detail page, where you can add documents and start work.
