Assigning Examiners

Orders can be assigned to specific examiners to manage workload and responsibility.

Why Assign Examiners?

Assigning examiners helps:

  • Distribute workload across your team
  • Track who is responsible for each order
  • Filter the dashboard by examiner

Only users with the Examiner or Lead Examiner role appear in the examiner dropdown.

Assigning During Order Creation

In the create order form, the Order Information card has an Assign to Examiner dropdown. Pick an examiner there, or leave it Unassigned. See Creating Orders.

Assigning from Order Details

To assign or change the examiner on an existing order:

  1. Open the Order Detail page
  2. Stay on the Order Details tab — the examiner is shown there as Assigned Examiner, but it is read-only on that view
  3. Click the Edit (pencil) button in the actions above the right-hand column
  4. The card is replaced by the Update Order Details form
  5. Change Assigned Examiner — the dropdown includes an Unassigned option for clearing the assignment
  6. Click Save Changes

The assignment is not saved until you submit the form.

Edit is disabled once the order is locked, so a completed or archived order cannot be reassigned.

Filtering by Examiner

On the Orders dashboard:

  1. Open the filters
  2. Choose a name from the Examiner dropdown, which defaults to All examiners
  3. The table shows only orders assigned to that examiner

There is also a Show only my orders checkbox — a separate filter that limits the table to the orders assigned to you.

This is useful for examiners to see their personal queue or for managers to review a specific examiner's workload.

Unassigned Orders

Orders with no examiner show Unassigned in the reference strip and on the dashboard. They appear in the table whenever no examiner filter is applied; the examiner filter itself selects a named examiner, so there is no "unassigned only" filter option.

To take an unassigned order, open it, click Edit, choose yourself in Assigned Examiner, and save.
