Manual Editing

Correct what the AI extracted when it got something wrong.

When to Edit Manually

Manual editing is useful when:

  • AI misclassified a document type
  • Party names were extracted incorrectly
  • Recording information needs correction
  • Legal description parsing failed
  • Matters need adjustment

Editing happens in the document viewer's Edit mode. You can edit a document while you are reviewing it, and you can reopen an already-included document and edit it again afterwards. The edit and routing controls do not appear once the order is complete or archived.

Editing Document Type

To change a document's type, open it, switch to Edit, and set the fields in order:

  1. Pick the category
  2. Pick the document type within that category
  3. Pick a subtype, if the type has any

The type change is part of the edit you save - it is not applied on its own.

Editing Party Information

The panel holds a single Parties list with an Add Party button. There are no separate grantor and grantee lists, and no per-role add buttons: who granted what is recorded on the matter, not on the party.

The Party Form

Each party takes a party type - Individual, Trust, Corporation, LLC, Partnership, Government, Estate or Other.

  • For an individual, fill in the name parts (first, middle, last, suffix); the full name is assembled for you.
  • For any entity type, enter the entity name directly.
  • Marital status is optional and applies to individuals only.
  • Capacity is optional and free text - for example "as Trustee" or "as Agent".

Removing a Party

Use the delete control on the party's row.

Editing Recording Information

Recording information sits at the top of the document panel, above the extracted sections. Update instrument numbers, book/page references and dates there. The PDF pane's Find in document search helps you confirm a value against the page before you change it.

Editing Matters

  • Change a matter's classification with its matter type selector.
  • Edit the matter's own fields in place.
  • Add a matter with + Add Matter.
  • Record instrument references in the References section with Add Reference.

Entry numbers are not edited here - they are assigned on the runsheet.

Routing a Document

The review panel offers three routing actions:

  • Move to Other Docs - the document is not a title instrument; it moves to Supporting Documents.
  • Exclude - the document comes off the exam and moves to Excluded Documents.
  • Remove from Order - the document is deleted from the order after a confirmation. Unlike Exclude, it leaves nothing behind in Excluded.

The Supporting Documents and Excluded Documents tables carry their own Move to Exam Documents action and a per-row delete button.

All of these controls are disabled while a document is still processing; they become available once it reaches a review stage or has settled.

Excluding is one-way today: there is no un-exclude action, and only rows the system marked Not Subject Property can be promoted back with Move to Exam Documents. There is no status-override control anywhere in the document interface.

Saving Changes

Edits are held in the panel and committed when you save or accept (⌘/Ctrl+Enter). A save can be refused if a field still carries an unresolved error - the panel lists the offending fields so you can fix or explicitly accept each one, then save again.
